Kidney Transplant is also known as Renal Transplantation. Kidney transplant surgery is a procedure of curing the patient with end- stage of renal disease. Kidney transplant can be performed replacing the diseased kidney donated from the deceased donor as well as living donor depending on the source of the recipient organ.

Kidney Disease : the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) also known as Chronic Renal Disease requires the Kidney transplant. It is a disease that causes a progressive loss of renal function.

Genetic Diseases : Polycystic Kidney disease, number of inborn errors of metabolism and autoimmune conditions including lupus and Goodpasture’s syndrome.

Other diseases : malignant hypertension, infections, diabetes mellitus and glomerulonephritis.

Living Donors : the potential donors are carefully evaluated on medical and psychological grounds to ensure that they are fit for surgery and have no kidney disease. The advanced therapy eliminates the need for the living donor to be of the same blood type of the recipient.

Deceased Donors : they are divided into two groups: the brain dead donors and after cardiac death donors. The heart of the brain dead patients continues to pump which makes it possible for surgeons to start operating. Donation after cardiac death donors are rushed to the operating theatre after their death. The blood no longer circulates in the body of the patient; coagulation must be prevented with relatively large amounts of anti- coagulation agents such as heparin.
